Camera Transmitters

How can I stream video over a range of 4 miles of cables?

i need to make a video coverage of an event, which occurs in an area of 4 miles. I want to use up to 5 cameras, but I can not afford the expensive transmitters wireless video. Can anyone advise on how to send video through cables in the range of 4 miles, without loss of quality? Is there any i amplifier video signal can be used?

1,000 feet of RG-59 video cable is about $ 400. 4 miles would cost about $ 8,000. Amplifiers would be required occasionally on cable and some way of multiplexing of cameras in one cable or run a separate cable for each camera. You will find cheaper rent a wireless system to do what you want. There will also be a much better job for you.

CCTV Camera, CCTV Surveillance Camera, Wireless Camera, CCTV Distributor

Although the application of closed circuit security television have not changed much in recent years, tools and equipment significantly. Cameras became smaller, cheaper and better, but the real breakthrough happened in recording equipment.

Therefore many customers shopping for complete CCTV monitoring and recording systems are confused by such veracity of the products available. Objective of this article is to guide buyers toward the best and most economical type of CCTV equipment, based on application planned and requirements.

Selecting the right cameras. It is almost impossible to describe all types that are available in this short article. We will focus our attention on the most popular and widely used camera types instead.

CCTV produce images using CMOS or CCD (Charge Couple Device) chips. Tiny, CCTV cameras very low price usually use CMOS technology, produce poor quality images and are sensitive to poor light. Cameras Closed circuit television decent quality CCD technology use. The size of the CCD chip is normally 1 / 4 ", 1 / 3" or 1 / 2 ". As a rule Generally, the larger the size, the better the image quality produced and the higher the price. However, the highest density of 1 / 4 "and 1 / 3" CCD chips can now produce as good image as many 1 / 3 or 1 / 2 "chips.

The number of TV lines in the image of the security camera is a measure of image resolution (sharpness). The greater the number of TV lines, the better the resolution and, therefore, the overall image quality. House Standard resolution may have 350-380 lines, over 400 TV lines is generally considered good resolution while over 500 lines TV is considered high resolution. Cameras B / W chip to produce a higher resolution and higher light sensitivity, therefore suitable for use in dark areas where lighting conditions are poor most of the time.

Turning the color cameras also offer a more realistic and natural. CCTV TV

Professional quality cameras.

Type box body has the ability to use different types and sizes of the lenses. Interchangeable Lenses allow this camera to monitor objects from virtually any distance. Although for indoor use, it can be used for outdoor when combined with weatherproof housing. They are considered the most flexible and widely used by professionals for commercial installations.

Bullet Cameras.

Bullet cameras are, as the name suggest contained inside the bullet-shaped housing.

Most bullet cameras are weatherproof and sealed without the possibility of using different lenses. The great advantage of the camera shot and the small size and integrated design, some bullet cameras will even future LED integrated infrared. simply LED light in the infrared spectrum (not visible to human eye). This light will illuminate viewing area, enabling full tracking darkness. This is the great future, but only works to a certain distance (usually between 10 and 50 feet, depending on model) vary estheticly easy to install and designed, bullet cameras are the ideal choice for residential and do-it-yourself installations where monitoring objects are within about 25 feet of the location of the camera (with standard 3.6mm lens).

Council Chambers.

Council Chambers are basically fixed lens mounted on a circuit board. These cameras can be packed in a small case (Mini Cameras) or dome (Mini Dome) or simply sold unpackaged, for mounting by the buyer. Lenses of these are either a normal industry aperture or a "pinhole" very small aperture lens. Pinhole lens cameras are often called "chambers spyware and can be mounted in a hidden form of covert surveillance purposes. The most popular examples of discrete board smoke detector and motion detector cameras.

Since the lenses of the cameras on board are pre-assembled, have a fixed iris and are usually of short focal length (wide, that is), flexibility its usefulness is limited. However, this type of camera can provide a low cost solution in the right situation, especially in a home environment. We have little time is described most popular types of cameras, now allows disk, how and where to use the mites.

Professional types with C / CS mount attachment target generally offer better performance and many important futures, like lens control output, Back Light Compensation and many more ...

Distance subject to surveillance the camera is not a problem, that is why the ability to select different lenses, based on location is so important. Installation is somewhat complicated and professional Installation highly recommended. We recommend this type of security cameras for commercial installations.

Most bullet cameras comparison, not offer high resolution and lens selection flexibility, but is likely to be weatherproof, some will have infrared built and most of all those who are relatively easy to implement. They usually come with 3.6mm lens witch are considered adequate for most standard installations (good room to cover small to medium or equivalent).

For larger rooms or longer distances, cameras with lenses of 6 mm or greater may be required. Choice that are great for any do-it-yourself installation.

Chambers of the Board however, are widely used in facilities hidden camera, sometimes called Spy Cameras. Many are basically the board with built-in transmitter. We will not go into wireless cameras right now, as this would be enough material for completely new article.

Board cameras are sold as single circuit board for integration into devices hidden camera. They are available in the domed housing, and vary popular Dome Camera or integrated with smoke detector, motion detector Sign out and so on. Most also come with 3.6mm lens although some will allow lens to be replaced.

During the time, more practical design has been Dome Camera with its aesthetic appearance blends into surroundings, especially with folding clasp, ideal for use in stores, lobbies, gas stations and other public places. Practical solution for covert installation also, Motion and Smoke Detector cameras, they are completely replace the security alarm or fire protection. They should always be selected based on the location of the camera (inside / outside), distance from monitored, light condition and budget.

When shopping for security cameras, customers are faced with the fact that you have to select one or another recording device.

The days of known CCTV time-lapse recorder are almost over.

Although some customers still prefer this old fashioned recording solution, it is worth investing some extra money to buy a good quality digital video recorder (DVR). Digital recorder transfers sequence of analog video camera format, and stores it in the hard disk. There are two main types of digital recorders on the market right now.

RE) ST-E2 SPEEDLITE TRANSMITTER

The Canon Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2 is compatible with Type A EOS cameras (E-TTL, auto flash) and Type B EOS cameras (manual flash). The ST-E2 is designed to control slaved Canon 550 EX flashes, enabling simultaneous flash use in professional settings. The wireless controller has a flash ratio control, allowing for several different A:B ratios, 1:8 to 8:1 in half-step increments, as well as slave confirmation via a test transmission button, which sets off slave A, followed by slave B, at 1/64 output.

Features

  • Wireless flash controller for the Canon EX420 and EX550
  • Indoor transmission range of approximately 40 to 50 feet
  • Outdoor transmission range of approximately 26 to 33 feet
  • 1,500-transmission battery life
  • Turns off after 90-second idle

Decent, but not entirely worth it.

by Yonas A. Hassen from on 2010-07-27
PROS: + affordable way to have remote, wireless triggering. + unbelievably efficient battery life. + very straight-forward and easy to learn the controls. + very lightweight.CONS: - unsatisfactory range. - has to be within "view" of the slave light source. - any small obstructions between transmitter and receiver results in communication loss. This is a fun transmitter to fool around with when just starting out with wireless triggering and studio shooting. But unfortunately, after just a few times of using it, I outgrew it's pretty meager capabilities. Unless you shoot a lot in nightclubs or small events, I HIGHLY recommend that you instead save up more money and invest in Pocket Wizards.

Works well indoors / limited compatibility

by MiRSD from on 2010-07-14
First off, awesome idea!Unfortunately, the idea wasn't perfected.Getting your camera off the flash has gotten MUCH easier over the years - wireless triggers, ETTL cables, hotshoe-slaves, PC-Sync cables, you name it.The problem is getting that flash to carry ETTL wirelessly. So far only a few transmitters do it, and they're all VERY expensive (requiring not only a transmitter, but also a receiver for each flash). That's where this little guy steps in.The STE2 pops in your hotshoe and wirelessly triggers your Canon flashes (with slaves). The first problem here, is the "Canon" part - unlike the other options which work with ANY brand of flash, this one works with the Canon system. If you only own Canon flashes, no problem! If you own a mix, you've got a problem (the Canon's don't come cheap!)The next problem is that it's line of sight based. This means it has to be able to "see" the other flashes. Not so much of a problem indoors (it'll bounce off walls and generally hit the flash), but outdoors you'll have issues. Sunlight, especially, causes signal loss and (especially using multiple flashes) it's not something you want to have to rely on (you'll spend time either trying to correct it, making sacrifices or not notice that half your flashes didn't fire (which would be too late)).If you already own a Master/Slave flash (like some canon 580EXII's), try that on wireless mode to see how well it works outdoors, that should give you an idea of what to expect from this. Unfortunately, with it being unreliable, I just can't recommend it for anyone planning to use it outdoors. Indoors, you should be fine, but is it the option you need or would a cheap transmitter or sync cable do the same job for you?Next problem is the battery - for some odd reason I can't understand, they decided to use non-standard batteries. No AA or 9V here, we've got a "2CR5" here. Have a bunch of these lying around? Chances are you don't, and you'll want spares for when you need to replace it!One very cool thing about it is that it has Focus Assist - that's the little red pattern that the canon flashes use to help you focus in low-light situations. If you don't need to use the flash, you can still use this thing to help focus in darker locations without needing to mount a high-flash on top. I know I've used my 580EXII as a focus-assist tool (not using the flash output), so having this (much smaller) option is very nice. The question is, is it worth the asking price? For me, I say no. For you, maybe it is.There are much better options out there - if you just need wireless, pick up a transmitter/receiver combo for 1/10th the price of this. If you need ETTL, spend 1.5x the price of this and get one of the new pocketwizards and a receiver - the extra range (and not having to fight with getting a line-of-sight) is worth it in the long run.

Think before you leap

by Bert Wright from Fredericksburg, VA, US on 2010-07-10
The unit works well. I have a two speed lights, a 580 and a 430 EX and after using controller I think it would have been money better spend to buy third speedlight and use the 580 EX as the controller. The Canon Speedlight STE2 controls two groups of flashes, A & B. The 580 EX will control groups A, B & C.

EXCELLENT BUDGET ALTERNATIVE FOR POCKET WIZARDS

by Viridiana Serrano from Fontana, CA United States on 2010-04-17
I first bought this transmitter as an alternative to the pocket wizards. Most of the work I do with this transmitter is outdoors. Greats pretty good outdoors, even if both, the flash and the receiver are under direct sunlight (flash has fired every single time). Of course, since it is an infrared wireless trigger system, the only limitation you have is that the flash has to be in front or above the camera to be triggered. Outdoors, you have to be within a horizontal working distance of 10-15 feet, and you can be about 30 feet away from the flash within the horizontal working distance (although most of us, will be working within 12 feet of our subject). I would highly recommended. i even got to use it with an umbrella directly in front of the flash, and the flash could still be triggered without any problems.

Works Well Indoors

by Earl Wilkerson from South Beloit, IL on 2010-02-23
A while ago I wrote a simple review of this stating how well it works. I've since changed that statement... I am absolutely disappointed in the performance of this unit! This unit will work fine if you are indoors - I have had a 95% failure rate outdoors in a variety of lighting conditions, and as close as 1' from the unit. Everything I've read during my extensive pre-purchase research led me to believe (blindly) that it could at least get moderate success at a relatively close range (5-10'). All the DIY hacks in the world in regards to foil or other reflective attachments aren't enough to increase the communications between the flash and this unit. You are probably better off in the long run to save a fairly respectable chunk of your hard-earned money and put buy a set of Cactus V2 triggers (A.K.AL "Ebay" triggers/"Poverty Wizards"). They will set you back about $30-40 for a decent set. True, they are NOT a Pocket Wizard in any sense of the word, and will not perform even near the same. However, they certainly beat the annoyances that are sure to come when using this product (line-of-sight is not always possible with OTC flash). In fact, the best option for those not willing to shell out $200-300, may want to check out PC sync cables. Yes, I know, it's an older technology (some say more cumbersome), but with the right quality brands on equipment - as many things in life - you get a very stable and consistent set up. No more explaining to your client why you didn't get that last shot.Okay...back on topic...PROS - Compatible with all Canon Speedlites - Offers wireless triggering capabilities for off-the-camera flash - Has decent battery life - Can trigger multiple flashes simultaneously - Fairly simple to use - Convenient buttons for high-speed sync and flash power settings - Works well in small to medium-sized roomsCONS - Only works with Canon Speedlite series of flashes - Non-standard battery - No battery-life indicator - No 2nd curtain (slow-sync) flash capabilities - Unreliable in outdoor settings (and some indoor) - A little pricey, based on features

Works with Iphone 4 with an easy modification

by J. Bobrek from Knoxville, TN United States on 2010-09-03
I love this charger/transmitter! I don't have messy wires running around or some ugly bulky thing in my car. Its very unobtrusive and sleek looking even when it isn't being used. It holds your iPhone 3G securely. I've been using this for over a year with my iPhone 3G until I accidentally took it swimming with me. I bought an iPHone 4 as a replacement and found that it would not fit any of the 3 cradles that come with this. I found that it worked perfect if I removed the cradle all together, but was woried that without the support of the cradle that it would eventually damage my iPhone case. Well, I took a thin board and wrapped it in fine sandpaper and sanded the curve in the cradle to a sharp corner to match the iPhone 4 and voila! Perfect! It charges my iPhone 4 fast too! When travelling, I take this with me for my car rental. I also take a short 12" stereo cable with me in case the rental has an AUX port. The charger has a stereo out port at the base and, using the AUX port will always sound better than FM transmitter. For those that haven't used an FM transmitter before, don't expect perfect CD quality sound. At the best, you can achieve FM stereo quality. With this charger, I hear some static when going under high power lines. I don't think any other FM transmitter would be any better.

disappointed

by Faheem Ahmed Khan from on 2010-08-12
I got this FM transmitter before getting on a long road trip. I wanted to use it in my odyssey van.pros - better than the previous one I got which wodnt' do anything.. - I can play you tube videos from my iphone and it'll transmit the soundcons - doesn't come with a stand for all iPods.. at least didn't have one for the iPod i own - lot of disturbance in sound when driving on the freeway, esp, when i have my hands on the wheel - not easy to operate while driving

Not quite to par for the Iphone

by bugalabuga from on 2010-07-21
I bought the RoadTrip for the 3G Iphone. It is exactly what I was looking for (charger + fm transmitter) and it performed great, but only at first. It is absolutely pointless now as I constantly get messages saying the phone is not compatible. It constantly interrupts the music and the charger goes on and off.It is done for.A total bummer as this device has the right idea. No cords. Your phone isn't lying around the car attached to some annoying wire. It charged. It played your music. They just need to get the connection area fixed and work out whatever is causing the error messages. They fix that and this is a sure 5 star for me.

Works for me!

by Paul in Dayton, OH from on 2010-06-14
My drives around town are so short (15 miles to work, less for errands) that the am / pm drive can be nearly all commercials on the radio so I was looking for a transmitter to play podcasts from my iPhone. That has worked out great and not worrying about stereo quality sound certainly makes finding a usable frequency easier! The re-charging feature is great given the iPhone's short battery life and my lack of charging habit. Definitely recommend this product.

Ok signal quality most of the time. Doesn't hold phone securely.

by N. Ardle from Ann Arbor, MI USA on 2010-06-11
Sometimes the signal quality is very good. Other times it is not as good. Pretty par for the course on FM transmitters. Often I would find myself placing one finger on the side of the unit as I drive in order to boost the signal quality. The arm is very stable and stiff and will not move unless you move it yourself. What cases me to go from this to another FM transmitter is the fact that it does not hold the phone securely. If I go over a big bump it will loosen the phone. Then all it takes is a hard turn to send the phone flying to one side or the other.I have the thinest case made for the iPhone, and my case causes the fit to be less than ideal. If you have anything thicker than the Case-Mate Barely There, your case will not fit with this transmitter. You would be required to remove the case to use the transmitter.I recently bought the FlexPod+. It is far superior to this case. It holds the phone securely. It has MUCH better signal quality. It is cheaper. In short, skip the Griffin and go with the FlexPod.

I got a lemon

by Edna Umberger from CUMMING, GA, US on 2010-07-14
It was easy to use, and easy to figure out. Loaded all my favorite songs, it was a snap. The buttons were either touchy or ?? They never did work the way the instructions said they should. Volume control didn't work at all. I felt like the battery life was a little short but oh well. Until one day it just wouldn't recharge. I tried different chargers. One different charger worked for while then it just stopped recharging. I tried contacting customer service to find out if there was just something I didn't understand about the product. Never got through to a real person, or even a returned email. Again, it was a lemon and not worth the trouble I got.

A good player for the price

by mp3 Mark from on 2010-01-01
It has a great screen. I put an avi movie on it and it looked great. Music sounds very good also. You have 8 preset equalizer settings you can choose from or you can make one of your own. The earbuds are decent. The two internal speakers are just for convenience when your testing the thing. They don't put out much sound. You will want external speakers. It's treated as a usb device. You just create folders on the PMP and drag and drop, so it will work with a mac. There is a hold button and you can shuffle all of your music. The photos I put on it looked great after I turned up the brightness of the screen in the settings menu. It will not play when it is charging. Don't buy it for camera. What can you expect for two megapixels? It takes a little while to get used to the buttons but once you play with it it's a snap. If you expect an ipod I guess you better buy one. For the price this is a pretty good player. I almost forgot. It has FM radio and picks up stations pretty good. Other things it does that I don't care about: Text reader, calendar, stop watch, voice recorder, and video camera. I didn't bother with those. I also didn't bother with the cd that came with it.

Needs alot of work on many vital things

by Jarrod Hobbs from on 2009-08-17
Pros: -Nice looking -Easy to navigate -Decent vid playbackCons: -Backlight gave out on me in 2 months -Screen cracked under very light use -microphone for camera needs you to yell to hear it slightly -only likes avi videos (says error on any other type) -customer service wanted to charge me to ship it to them so they could half-way fix it and send it back when I requested a new one.Overall, do not get it, it's fun for a little bit then breaks. Do yourself a favor and upgrade to an iPod of some sort, their failure rate for no reason is much much lower.

Interface needs refinement

by David Fox from Anchorage,Alaska on 2009-07-11
Following are the areas which I like: Size, fit and finish, screen resolution, features(lots and useful), drag and drop file transfer.I did not like the interface. You need to "play with it" for a while to get the feel of how to navigate. Sometimes you end up in "Neverland" and have to use the reset switch on the bottom of unit and start over. The web site is not workable and I was unable to even find an update file for the firmware.Overall OK, and after you get the feel of using it, worth the [...] I spent on it.

Great Product, LOW VALUE

by B. Dub from Alexandria, VA USA on 2010-05-20
I had a chance to test this out for a week and the general conclusion is that it is NOT a buy at this price. The product is geared toward studio environments which is their first mistake. The 7D is a great camera, but studio photographers that are willing to pay $700 for a mere convenience accessory aren't using a $1,500 camera. If this was for the 1Ds then the price would makes sense. Now after that rant lets get to the review. The grip transmitter is solidly constructed (though not sure if it is weather sealed like 7D) and weights about the same as the regular battery grip. It was easy to setup and use. Transferred files with no problems whatsoever. Since I have a DLNA TV that is compatible with the TV display feature it was cool to see shots displayed on my tv when they were taken. However, it is worth saying that the transmitter only transmits at 802.11a,b,g speeds and is not 802.11n compliant.Overview:PROS ----- Easy Setup Relatively Quick Transfers TV Display Feature for compliant TVs Does Exactly What You'd ExpectCONS ----- Price!BOTTOM LINE ----------- If you're a studio photographer that somehow is using the 7D and is willing to spend $700 for the convenience of wireless transfer then what you expect is what you will get. However for everyone else I can't recommend spending half of the camera's price on this accessory. If you're willing to spend that on wireless transfer then you should be upgrading to one of the Canon 1D bodies anyway and will have no need for this accessory. Also, I only had 1 grip to test so I wasn't able to try out the linked shooting master/slave feature that is probably the only real application where this accessory could make sense, i.e. parallel photography from different angles. This feature would allow sports photographers to trigger multiple cameras to capture "the shot" from multiple angles at the same time. Given the 7D amazing auto-focus and 8fps this about the only reason I could think of to purchase this accessory.

Saddening :(

by Shannon from on 2010-08-04
Got this Archos almost as soon as it came out. the manual was not much help and it was about 2 weeks until I discovered a whole other menu by sliding my finger to the side on the home menu. from there you can adjust settings and such.I had a Sandisk Sansa e250 before and it was all fine until the sound gave out.the Archos has a really nice layout and is bright and easy to read, totally not grainy like outdated electronics. it was easy to make up to 5 playlists under "favorites", as opposed to one or none on other players. it's a really nice looking player with a great display. camera is just for fun though- pictures were small and grainy, but hey. it's easy to snap a picture and set it as your background on it.sadly, it didn't last too long as I dropped one of my sneakers on it and the screen pulverized. I didn't imagine anything of the sort happening after my extremely durable Sansa. very disappointing and a waste of $100 for a player that I only got to enjoy for a month, after that accident. I'm afraid to buy other touch screens now for fear of the same thing happening. far too fragile, which is a shame.

Great Music Player

by Guy from on 2010-07-24
I chose the 3cam over the regular 3 vision because of hopes that the camera and photo would be worth having. Even though I haven't had much use for it so far, having the ability to put my favorite shows on it is great. The screen has a great picture and the music sounds great, having the radio is a huge plus too. I have not had any problems with the transmitter being weak like some other people have stated, you just have to tune it correctly. I would recommend it for anyone looking for something different than an Ipod. The only downside I can honestly say is the lack of info they give you from the directions on how to use it, but for avg. tech people its no problem.

Good value set of features

by j-thor from usa on 2010-07-23
I really like the set of features this offers in a compact package with reasonable price. The little manual that comes with it doesn't do it justice; there are more capabilities that you can discover on your own or in the right forums. It amazes me on how well the little thing can play movies, and of course I expected it's great performance on various music formats. Some features only seem to have the most basic functionality, like the microphone and FM transmitter seem weak, and the camera/video taking isn't terribly sharp. And it can be hard at times to navigate audio books. But maybe I haven't gotten it tuned up optimally... I found right away that some of the default settings were directed toward another continent. Pretty happy for the price though.

excellent it's been on my tundra for over a year now and it's great in the daytime grainy at night but still quite sufficient.

Great little camera

by Bobby Dunn from SE KY on 2009-05-02
Very nice little camera. The quality is plenty good enough to see what is behind you (although there is a little noise, I imagine more from the long cable). I drilled a hole in my plastic bumper and mounted it and found it to be a little troublesome. The collars are designed to rotate with a cam action to allow it to be aimed, but it is pretty awkward to adjust and level. Other than that I am very satisfied and feel that this is maybe the best safety feature for a car, especially if you have kids. Be sure and order you a standard video cable the length you need as it only comes with one long enough to go inside the car.

Amazing when set up

by Eric Leszkowicz from OH USA on 2009-11-04
The range on this one is simply amazing. For something working on the wireless standards, the range is very impressive. The setup is short of a nightmare. Not for the technological newby! My setup is through Vista Ultimate/Win 7 and I am advanced when it comes to computers and it does cause me to pull my hair out.Again, great when working, very frustrating in the setup.

OK but not for the novice

by A. Foster from Chicago, Illinois United States on 2009-10-14
The use of wireless upload to on-line sites is nothing new. By now you would have thought that Nikon would have it perfected, but as usual they are late to the game and fell a bit short with the WT-4.For Studio work it's little more than average in performance. Transfer rate is almost laughable when compared to what is on the market for wireless transfer. It's very stable when in a controlled environment like a studio, but this is almost pointless when all you need to do is swap memory cards and you're ready to go rather than wait for the transfer to complete. Then there's the never-ending battle with the interface cable that always seems to be in the way. The cable usually looses mainly because it's only USB connection that barely snugs into it's port. Making this more secure would be a major improvement. I would even be willing to put up with the slow speed if this were a bluetooth link to the camera. (*hint* *hint* *hint*)As was pointed out in one of the other reviews, the manual is all but useless, therefore, your best option would be to go on line and search for how to program this unit for use. (The manual is obviously a poorly translated version of the Japanese one.)If this were married to a 4G network and made less of a beast when it comes to power (yes, one battery will last about 1 hour with light to moderate use,) And this could easily be a world beater, but alas, it's not much more than an expensive toy. It's handy, but not even close to an improvement for your productivity. If Eye-Fi ever releases an Ad-Hoc mode for it's Wireless card, the WT-4 will go the way of the woolly mammoth. TFC

WT-4 and my experience with it.

by Charles Wade from ALabama on 2009-02-22
OK, now that it is up and running, I love it. But be warned, I am a geek and thing thing took a few years off of my life. After spending more than 12 hours trying to get it to talk to my MacBook Pro, I tried it on my wife's PC and it was running in less than 30 minutes. Downloaded the latest drivers and presto, instant wireless network. But then I went back to my mac. After a few more hours I managed to get them talking. Now I love life. But here is the biggest problem I have had. With the latest version of OS 10. (I have OS 10.5.5) the manual is useless. And you will have no better luck on Nikon's web page for support. The instructions for how to set it up differs on step 3 and never returns to the road the manual takes. You will have to blaze your own trail. So if you are running windows or an older version of Mac, you should be fine. But if you have a newer version of a Mac, you better know the ins and outs of networking or it will be painful. I am a geek and it was painful for me.That said, once it is running, I have found it to be awesome. The time it takes to download is not as slow as I had expected. I am using a Nikon D300. You can shoot in the highest res Raw + Jpg and it will keep up unless you just fire several shots each second. I tend to shoot about one shot every second and it keeps up pretty good. So if you want to get instant file movement from your camera to to your computer, or if you want the security of knowing that there are two independent storage devices loading your images, this is the way to go.

All works well with Mac OS 10.5.5 (Jaguar) except Thumbnail Selector

by Paul Derby from on 2008-10-20
I picked up a WT-4A on Oct 17, 2008. The Firmware in my unit was 1.0. A search of the Nikon web page http://support.nikontech.com/ with a search for WT-4 got me to the information to do several upgrades. I updated the WT-4 firmware to version 1.1. My Nikon D3 was already running firmware 2.0. I downloaded updates for the WT-4 Setup Utility (version 1.1.0) and Thumbnail Selector (version 1.10).Configuring and setting up the WT-4 to work with my wireless network in "infrastructure" mode was easy. The camera functioned just fine using Nikon Camera Control Pro 2.2. Using tripod live mode I was able to make focus and exposure adjustments from the computer and take pictures easily. It takes a while to transmit the raw images to the computer, so taking rapid sequences is not possible. Downloads seem to take 5 seconds or so, but I didn't time the download exactly.I was not able to get Thumbnail Selector to work at all with my setup. Thumbnail selector launches just fine, the connection to the D3 works just fine. But no thumbnails appear in the application even though I can look at pictures stored on the camera using the camera's functions to view stored pictures.I wonder if this is a function of Apple's software. Aperture 2 is unable to view Nikon D3 thumbnails, either, when the camera USB setting is set up as a camera, rather than as auxiliary storage. So if you need a way to remotely view, focus, and expose using the WT-4A as your wireless line to your camera, this is a great device. But there are still some problems with the software for other features, namely, the Thumbnail Selector application, which doesn't work with my setup.

Best one yet

by N. Kiekhofer from on 2008-09-05
Manual is a little confusing, but set up is really easy. Transfer works great. Make sure to buy a battery/charge, not included. Does eat batteries pretty fast and gets warm. Battery would last me 3-4 hours of shooting. It is expensive but does work very well.

Know the technology!

by T. Norris from Cleveland, OH on 2006-09-08
This device will use an ad hoc transmission to an FTP configured laptop (ie with built in wireless), but at the slower 801.11b mode - generally plenty fast enough >1mbyte/sec, so a high res raw file will be transferred in 10 seconds. This has a great range - can cover a football field with extnded range antenna - blue tooth is unreliable across a dance floor. If you are pro and need fast upload to acomputer for client reasons, go for it. Pricey, but then they don't sell 1,000,000 of 'em to recoup the development cost. One safe guard is it won't work if you are out of memory - you always have a backup of what you sent - on the card! Of course you can delete it then after your partner calls you on your blue tooth ear bud to let you know it was received and being printed for sale as you shoot your next shot!

Doesn't Make Sense

by M. Luedke from Seattle, WA on 2006-08-29
Ok, I imagine if you forked over the $900 for this baby you would not want me telling you that you got a bad deal, but I am going to say it anyway. This little baby is way over priced, not to mention you need a lot more than just this to make it work. You need a wireless router!! So rather than just complain, let me tell you what I want Canon to do about it and maybe we can start a revolution! With CF cards in the 12GB range it doesn't make sense that you would need this for capacity reasons (I know those of you with the biggest and brightes 16MP that shoot in JPEG & RAW on the highest settings just laughed at me), however where this item is worth it is if you want to immediately see your shots on a big screen or computer without having to take the shot, take out the card, etc.WHAT I WANT is a bluetooth compact flash card. They make these so I know it is possible. I would like Canon to offer support for these compact flash cards so that I can immediately sync my bluetooth computer with my bluetooth camera. Now that would make it so that when I am in the studio or shooting a wedding, I have the mobility 30 feet - 90 feet depending on card and I don't have to drag along a wireless router and I saved myself $700. Get to it Canon - I am waiting!!!!

iLuv I707BLK iPod FM Transmitter

by Harry W. Clements Jr. from The old North State on 2010-05-07
This is a neat device and works quite well. DO NOT BUY ONE FOR AN 8GIG 5th GENERATION iPod. YOU WILL HAVE TO EXTENSIVELY MODIFY IT TO FIT. Well, Mrs. Lincoln, other than the shooting, how was the play? Also, iLuv is snotty about it not fitting. It took hours to cut the slot bigger, knock off the two tabs, then measure and epoxy the holder to the unit in the proper position. iLuv could easily make an inexpensive adapter! It works fine now, however.UPDATE: This device does NOT seem to charge my iPod when it is plugged in to it AND if you leave the iPod in the device in also seems to DISCHARGE the iPod.

Mandatory Car Accessory

by A. Barber from IL on 2010-04-28
I've had my transmitter for about 8 months now. I would not make it without this thing. It's wireless! That is my favorite part! You don't even have to plug it into the lighter unless your ipod needs charging, you can just sit it on the seat. I have a bose radio that I use it like a remote for, I jam from my car to my house, to the back yard! lol It it broke tomorrow, I'd be on Amazon ordering another at my soonest convenience. There is one other thing, if your music is boot leg music, then it will sound like bootleg music no matter how good the transmitter is--just keep that in mind!

Best FM modulator.

by JVL from SW, Montana on 2010-04-02
I have tried many brands/types of fm modulators. This is my second iluv. Nothing comes close. I do agree with the review regarding the use of the rubber band, although I have never needed it in my car, only in my rough riding truck.
