Works, but range very limited.

by Tortoise Reviewer from on 2010-08-31
Was very excited to get a 5GHz capable AP at a good price, among all the other choices who barely stop to tell you that they share the 2.4GHz band. I will admit that this AP has been really reliable, barely ever getting thrown offline/unresponsive by reset WAN connections, reset router, etc.The range though...definitely nothing to get excited about - perhaps their focus really was raw speed in a simplistic environment (small home/apt.)? In any case, I live in a large multiperson, multiroom environment and the range of the router was less than the 802.11g.My bottom line - if you want a reliable, compact, inexpensive 5GHz AP for a studio or small environment this might be the one. Also, I didn't really use any of it's other features, they may make this the prefect product for you! If your goal is to see what 5GHz MIMO can do, this isn't it.

Not compatible with all NetGear N products!!!!

by J. Douglas from St Louis, MO USA on 2010-08-22
Just wanted to post this to let other people avoid what I have just experienced. I have a NETGEAR RangeMax Premium Wireless-N Gigabit Router (WNR3500) attached to my cable modem. The setup was easy and it's been working well over the last few weeks so I decided to upgrade the Linksys G access point that I had been using for my Samsung Blu-Ray Netflix Streaming player and my DVR. So I ordered this Access point. I read the instructions, followed every step, but nothing worked. I repeated the procedure and got the same result - couldn't find my Netgear router. Ironically, it could find my neighbors wireless equipment, but not mine. At least that told me it was working. I finally gave in and called Netgear. After 3 phone disconnections, I was able to reach a tech who was very difficult to understand (heavy accent) who helped me diagnose the problem. What I was finally told was that this access point is not compatible with my router! She suggested that I purchase NETGEAR Wireless-N Access Point (WN802T). As far as I can tell there was no mention of this device being compatible or incompatible with any other N product.Hope this helps someone!

Everything I expected

by Justin A. Jones from on 2010-08-09
I bought this to connect my WD HD TV Live to my dual band router for video streaming. It works very well. Performance is flawless. It streams my 1080P files perfectly. It lost a star do to set-up issues. I could not connect to device via it's IP. To date I still can't. I always set-up my networking equipment manually. I finally gave up used to automated set-up. That worked fine but I prefer to know the details of my installations. Other than that this is a top notch piece of hardware that I couldn't be happier with.

Great bridge and access point - important CAVEAT

by Robert Groshon from on 2010-08-04
I have five of these devices in my office: two working as access points and three working as bridges. I have not done any speed tests, so I can not comment on other reviewers complaints there. For our purposes everything works fine, and the devices were very easy to setup. However, there is one detail in the specifications that I overlooked. The 802.11n standard can operate at both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. This access point only transmits on 5 GHz, so it is NOT backward compatible with 802.11b or 802.11g devices. MORE IMPORTANTLY though, it is not even compatible with every Netgear 802.11n network adapter. I ordered the Netgear WN111 802.11n USB adapter, and it only transmits on the 2.4 GHz band, so it can not see this access point. Only dual-band adapters will be able to connect to this access point. We used this to setup bridges to desktops and IP phones in parts of the office that I didn't want to run cable to, and it was great for that. It is also great when I use a laptop that has a dual-band N adapter in it. However, it is useless with any B or G network adapter such as the ones in our older laptops, iPhone, etc.

Unbelievably Simple

by Pyanfar Chanur from USA on 2010-03-16
It's been a long time coming, getting everything *just so* on my home network, and the Netgear WNHDEB111 - 100NAS Wireless N Access Point has been a perfect finishing touch. I use this device specifically for my PS3 because the built-in wireless connection on the PS3 is too slow to properly stream high-resolution media, and my physical connection to the Internet is too far away from the PS3 to use a cable. The way this product is designed, it's actually just a bundle of two identical Access Points (APs). However these APs are smart: when you plug the first one into your Router, it says, "I am an Access Point" and starts sending out a signal. When you plug the second one into another device (such as my console), it says, "I am a Bridge" and starts looking for the first. They find each other, handshake, and all is good--easy as pressing a button (details below).I've not logged a ton of hours on the Netgear yet, but here's what I can tell you:- My neighborhood is drowning in a ridiculous number of wireless networks of all types. This setup is designed to dedicate the unit that is connected on my PS3 to the unit that is connected to the Router--in effect, this means ignores all the outsiders. It can be secured to prevent nosy neighbors from tapping it as well.- Many people who bought the unit earlier had lots of problems with signal strength. I am pleased to say that the problem appears to be fixed: my wireless signal has to cross the house, pass through 2 walls, a floor and my TV, and ignore the 5N band I already have on my router in order to get to the PS3, tuning out the neighbors along the way. I used this unit out of the box, with no need for firmware updates, and I have a strong signal with no dropouts.- Setup really was one of the simplest things I've ever had to do:1) Connect one adapter to your router but don't plug it on or turn it on. Make sure the switch on the back of it is set to "Auto" 2) Connect the other adapter to your device (in my case, the PS3) but don't plug it in or turn it on. Make sure the switch on the back of it is set to "Auto" 3) Plug in the first adapter and turn it on. 4) Plug in the second adapter and turn it on. 5) Press the button on the front of the first adapter, then step over to the second adapter and press the button on it.Within less than a minute, they locked on to each other and were ready to go. Amazing. I've pushed it to its limits, using multiple large HD videos on my home server (one of which came from a PAL DVD) and making it fast-forward, rewind, and jump back and forth at different speeds: it behaves just like a DVD would if it were in the player, with no hiccups or freezes waiting on the network to catch up. I can't wait to try gaming! If you have an older Wireless Router that's not N-speeds, this pair will give that router N-speed access for all the devices on your network. The additional AP can take a slower device and give it a nice fast upgrade that is easy to use. As an added bonus, both devices have a second Ethernet plug, allowing you to physically connect a second device if you wish. If you have a newer N router, the Netgear does a nice job of mapping around it. What this means in my case is that my LinkSys WRT610N gives variable-speed access to anything I want it to, up to N. Then I have a high-speed 5N network for my newest machines...and thanks to the Netgear, I have an entirely separate high-speed channel that can stream to my TV uninterrupted and with no traffic.

Just OK

by David G Paulhus from on 2010-03-13
Maybe its me, I had a difficult time getting this to work, once working it was great. I have one acting as an AP and the other connected to direct tv receiver and to media center computer, the direct tv receiver works flawlessly but the computer connection is lost every time it is booted and the 2 WNHDEB111 need to be rebooted for the computer to connect to the internet but no problems with the direct tv. So my conclusion is just to connect the tv and not the media center through the AP.

Works great, once it is set up

by Kelly D. Otto from Seattle, WA on 2010-03-03
My reason for purchasing this product was to provide connectivity with our wireless network for our Direct TV receiver. I had looked at several products but only a few (including this one) advertised that they would work with a Macintosh computer network. The installation instructions consist of a single sheet of paper printed on two sides. I consider myself fairly computer literate but after following the directions I wasn't able to get the two units properly communicating with each other. A call to tech support was able to remedy this and now the system works perfectly for my needs. What I don't understand is why the company won't spend a few extra dollars to provide clear and concise installation instructions which would allow them to reduce the tech support payroll. Oh well.

Excellent as HDTV Bridge

by Scott Campbell from Oklahoma City, OK on 2010-03-02
I first got the Netgear WNDR3700. I chose this because it is much faster than the older 3300 version and a little bit faster than LinkSys WRT610N. I can't find the web site but one really good one did comparisons for different distances and thru walls and floors. The 3700 replaced a 2.4 Ghz D-Link G router. The D-Link was very complicated to set up a couple years ago but the Netgear following directions exactly on when to power on/off and disconnect, Netgear router was easy and worked first time. I picked the 3700 because it had 5 GHz. All this leads up to my choice for WNHDEB111. I bought the pair to use with my HDTV. It was tested to be faster than the powerline ethernet adapters. I used one WNHDEB111 as a bridge to a Panasonic Plasma G10 in the bedroom (thru 1 wall about 20 ft away) and used the other as a bridge to a Sony 46z5100 LCD in my living room (thru 1 wall about 45 ft away). Have streamed HD and regular movies from Netflix with no problems. Setup was also very easy. Directions aren't straight forward but once you understand that all one has to do is push a button on the B111 then push one on 3700, they automatically sync up. Easiest network setup I've ever had!
