Nintendo Wii LAN adapter?

I just bought Rock Band 2 for my Wii system and I was a little tired of having to try to connect to the Internet each time you wanted to play QuickPlay. So I was interested in buying a Wii LAN adapter which lets you connect to the Internet. I read about it and everyone was raving about it and it seemed like an obstacle! As I know it comes with a small white box (the adapter) with a small 10-inch cable with a USB end that plugs into the back of the Wii, and 6 cable connection foot that connects to a modem or router. I personally have a laptop, and my entire family runs on a wireless router downstairs in the basement of a PC. That is regular team with a tower and monitor otherwise we have 6 laptops that connect wirelessly to the router. My sister, my father, and my running in all the Vista and all Samsung laptops. So I was wondering if I connect the cable to my laptop still work the same? Thank you!
