Wireless Access

To go or not go, wi-fi with DSL connection

Going wireless internet connection these days is becoming a trend, and many of us are beginning to enjoy. The convenience of being connected anywhere, or two feet or ten feet away from "anywhere", is delicious, we must admit. However, another rumor that has come out of wireless popularity is the security issue that unites. Although the security features are gradually advancing, no can be assumed to have a password is sufficient to guard personal and confidential information on your computer when using a wireless router.

In summary, it is safest not to go wireless business. There are many ways for outsiders to hack and may not worth taking the risk. To give an example, anyone with a computer laptop can sit outside his office building and the use of a "packet sniffer" to read all the air "that is traveling between the computer and the wireless router. In other words, is not even necessary for a hacker to access your computer directly for more information. Of course, there also software programs that can continuously dig to discover passwords, so that does not always help either. Hackers are everywhere, and its purpose in Life is often just to see how things work, and see if they can win against a system. Many times they do, and when they do, companies know it's time to change course and find another way to "guarantee" security. With a hard wire, the physical connection makes it almost impossible for a hacker to access - unless to dig up your phone line metro is an option.

In that sense, be aware that it is also dangerous to be riding free on the connections Wireless others. Some of them are honey traps, designed specifically to capture their attention for you to go online to say, make their operations bank, allowing the perpetrator to abuse your financial information. Sometimes this can be one of his neighbors who trusted, but who also unknowingly have made their open wireless connections the perfect bat for hackers to install monitoring software secretly. If you ride in the waves, taking all the risks they take their own computer spying.

There are cases, however, where providing wireless access is unavoidable. Let's say your company operates on a campus of offices, which means that the Internet should be available throughout the large property, or perhaps you own a café and the need for wireless access to attract customers. In such circumstances, keep in line with these security forces, at least be a help to you, and constantly looks to see who has access, or trying to gain access to your network:

Have two Internet connections. That is, two, even if it costs more. Keep the cable connection only for operations really top-secret (eg company trades, products in development, passwords and bank numbers, etc.). Allow wireless connections to use generally encourages employees or customers, but does not allow two connections to communicate with each other. In other words, a wireless connection should not give access to the server Company, where network files are stored.

Use MAC address filtering to determine who can access your network. An address MAC is like a serial number found on your computer hardware and acts as an identity card to a router. If the router sees that the user is logged in its customer lists permissible, given access. If not, then it will deny access. This method can also be susceptible to hacking by those who know how disguise themselves, or steal the identity of the MAC address, but at least over a barrier up. Furthermore, this situation may not work well on stage cafeteria, because a store employee have to configure the router's client list each time a customer wants wireless Internet access.

Set loooong one password. As far as possible. It just makes it harder for a hacker software to find, as a kind of equation long. If you use security that allows 26 characters, use them all, and mix. Again, hard to do in coffee, but hey, at least you can ensure that people are actually buying from you to use the connection by giving the password on receipts every time someone orders a coffee. Change your password often if you does this to keep the numbers get passed around too.

Change the SSID. This is the name of the wireless population and know when you are looking for a network to join. Manufacturers of routers to send their teams with that name already exists, and usually takes the brand name of the company or something similar. These names are considered easy targets for hackers because they appear unsafe. After all, if not change the SSID, you may not change the security encryption either.

Use firewalls. That's plural. Make sure there is a performance in wireless and also one run on computers, because, after all, the devices communicate with each other during a session of the entire Internet.

The WAP3205 also has the ability to function as a wireless bridge, allowing you to connect non-wireless network compatible devices to your existing network. Simply plug in your Ethernet based TIVO, Smart TV, Blue Ray player, network storage device (NAS), or game system into the WAP3205, and it can now join your wireless network. No software or drivers to be installed. With an 11n compatible data transfer rate of up to 300Mbps*, which is 6 times faster than 11g, you can enjoy high-speed network connection and high-definition video streaming with no jitters or dropped calls. With the built-in Universal Repeater mode, WAP3205 can connect to most popular access points or wireless routers while simultaneously acting as an access point to provide wireless connectivity to all other wireless devices such as notebooks.
